For advanced websites. This plugin automatically creates internal links to your pages and posts, wherever you type that page or post name. Other features include manually adding custom keyword links, with the option of creating external links, and manually excluding pages, posts, or keywords. To activate this plugin, go to the Plugins menu, find SEO Smart Links, and click Activate. To change the settings, go to the menu Settings > SEO Smart Links.
Important: When you activate this plugin, it will immediately affect all existing content. The links will appear on your website but not in the Page/Post editor. To remove specific links, you will need to make changes to the settings (namely through the Ignore Keywords list), or override them with manually added links in the editor.
Settings
You will likely need to change some settings to prevent this plugin from creating the wrong links. Here are the settings you will most likely need to change:
- The Ignore Posts and Pages list will keep SEO Smart Links from creating links on the listed pages and posts. The page “contact” is listed by default; you probably don’t want the text on your Contact page to link to other pages or posts.
- The Ignore Keywords list will keep SEO Smart Links from automatically linking the listed keywords to your pages and posts. The keyword “about” is listed by default; you probably don’t want to link to your About page whenever you use the word “about” in text on your website, because “about” can be used in a variety of contexts. This list is particularly important if you have short page or post names, such as “about,” “products,” or “services,” and those words are used in different contexts.
- The Custom Keywords list is useful for manually linking specific keywords to pages or posts, and linking to outside websites. For example, you could have the keyword “twitter” automatically link to your Twitter page.
- Limits. We recommend removing the limits, by setting both Max Links and Max Single to 0 (which indicates no limit).
